Gerunds are Verbal Nouns – that is, they can be used either as a verb or a noun.
Strictly speaking many of the ‘gerunds’ listed below are not gerunds but they do help to make phrases.

The examples within these categories are not mutually exclusive. The same gerund can appear in different categories.
